EarthWorks Expo 2008 Announces Special Activities for Kids

DENVER—April 1, 2008—Denver’s largest green-living event of the year, EarthWorks Expo 2008 (www.earthworks2008.com), will give green-minded families the opportunity to see and learn about hundreds of sustainable products and services with an estimated 150 exhibitors, 35 workshops and two keynote speakers.  The Expo’s unique Kid’s Garden will feature age-appropriate and environmentally-conscious crafts and activities for children 12 and under.  With the theme of “Go Green, Live Well” EarthWorks Expo is being held at the Denver Merchandise Mart on Saturday and Sunday, June 21-22.

Setting up a six-foot tipi, making unique creations from recycled materials or planting seeds in a container garden are just a few of the hands-on activities for kids.  The Kid’s Garden is a unique part of the Expo where children can take part in activities that build understanding and empowerment in the areas of sustainability, the environment, culture, conflict resolution and social skills.  “We encourage families attending the Expo to stop by and enjoy activities such as environmental games, storytelling, creating with color, or contributing to the EarthWorks wall hanging,” explains Michael Lindemann, Expo Director.  Children under eight must be accompanied by an adult.

Programming for the Kid’s Garden is made possible by Joni Steiner, education director of Earth Mountain Education Farm, a 440-acre environmental education center nestled in the unique canyons of the Sangre de Cristos in Southern Colorado.  Its mission is to educate for a sustainable tomorrow through experiential programs that encourage social consciousness, environmental awareness, and individual responsibility.  Steiner has worked with children on many levels as a Student Conservation Corps Leader, science teacher, workshop presenter and mother.

The Denver Merchandise Mart is conveniently located at I-25 and E. 58th Ave.  Times for EarthWorks Expo are 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Saturday, June 21 and 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Sunday, June 22.  Tickets will go on sale May 5, with daily admission only $8 for adults, $5 for seniors and $4 for youth.  Children age 12 and younger are free when accompanied by an adult.  Discounts for two-day admissions also will be available.
