Welcome Letter from Denver Mayor John Hickenlooper
DENVER—February 2008
Dear Friends:
On behalf of the City and County of Denver, I am pleased to welcome the EarthWorks Expo back to the Denver Merchandise Mart on June2l-22,2008. Building on the momentum of last year's successful event, it promises to be another exciting showcase to communicate the importance of sustainability as a public value and economic opportunity.
Sustainability is a central value of our administration and community. In 2006, we launched Greenprint Denver, a long-term, citywide action agenda for sustainable development that demonstrates how local government can be an effective force for innovation and leadership to improve the environment. Our efforts have already produced tangible results: in addition to significant savings in terms of fiscal and environmental resources, Denver was recently named one of the top 10 most sustainable cities in the nation.
Community participation will be vital for the city to meet its goals over the next five years. The EarthWorks Expo helps educate Denver-area citizens about products, strategies and practical steps to live more sustainably. Greenprint Denver [Director] Michele Weingarden will serve as a keynote speaker to discuss the important role residents can play to help Denver meet the goals set forth in the Greenprint Denver plan.
Welcome to Denver, and thank you for all that you do to make our region the best possible place to live -both for us and for future generations.
Sincerely,
John Hickenlooper
